Rothsay man accused of stealing vehicle, hitting owner

ROTHSAY, Minn. - A man here allegedly ran over the owner of a vehicle he stole before crashing it in another county.

According to a Wilkin County Sheriff's Office Press news release:

Deputies were called to the Rothsay about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and told the female owner of the vehicle was hit or ran over when she tried to stop the man.

According to the news release, deputies identified the man as Joseph Schleeter of Rothsay.

Schleeter allegedly drove into Otter Tail County where he crashed the stolen vehicle into an approach. Schleeter then ran from the scene and was found on Interstate 94 where witnesses tried to restrain him until law enforcement arrived.

Schleeter was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes to be treated for injuries.

The female victim was taken to Sanford Health in Fargo. Her name and condition were not released.
