SALEM, S.D. - A 38-year-old Salem man was shot by law enforcement Sunday night outside a bar on Salem’s Main Street.
Cornelius Milk was hospitalized after being shot as a result of an escalated incident outside of the Brewery Bar at 233 S. Main St. in Salem, according to the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office. McCook County Deputy Randy Schwader was the officer who fired.
The incident is under investigation, according to the attorney general’s office. A section of Main Street in Salem was blocked off Monday morning.
At the completion of the investigation, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation to be reviewed by the Attorney General for a final determination on the officer’s action. The release of the summary is anticipated within 30 days.
McCook County Sheriff’s Office declined comment on the matter Monday morning, but Sheriff Mark Norris said no one else was injured during the incident.
