Cass County commissioners may decide today whether to ask shoppers to help pay for an economic development growth plan.

The Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp. is seeking a half-cent sales tax in Cass County.

The Cass commission's agenda today includes a request from the group to hold a special election in November so voters can decide on the 12-year tax, which would start in 2008.

The tax would raise between $9.5 million and $10 million each year.

It would be used to fund an initiative aimed at bringing high-tech companies to the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Also today, the commission is expected to consider a request from the sheriff's office for security changes at the courthouse and Cass County annex.

Among the changes being proposed are prohibiting cell phones and metal beverage containers.

The County Commission meets at 3:30 p.m. today at the Cass courthouse.
