FARGO — Sanford Health is continuing to perform elective surgeries as other regional health care providers suspend procedures due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus.
While Sanford reports having enough equipment and medical personnel to meet patient needs, the provider is rescheduling procedures for high-risk patients on a case-by-case basis as a precaution.
"We institute conservation measures to be prudent, but we would not be proceeding if there was not enough equipment to both do this and to care for any of our COVID patients," said medical officer Doug Griffin.
Essentia Health and the Mayo Clinic have decided to suspend their elective surgeries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Griffin said Sanford will suspend elective surgeries if coronavirus cases put a strain on hospital resources.
