West Fargo and Fargo school boards are looking at ways the two districts could collaborate without losing their independence.
This week the boards are considering a framework for future efforts that could benefit students and taxpayers in the two districts.
West Fargo took a look at a draft resolution at its board meeting Monday. Board members said little about the draft, but asked to postpone voting on it for another two weeks.
The Fargo School Board will examine the draft tonight.
The resolution states the districts may explore efforts to provide services together "provided such efforts are within the spirit of maintaining two autonomous neighboring school districts."

The two districts have collaborated in the past to provide services more effectively and efficiently.
For example, some professional development opportunities are open to staff in both districts and they share services for students with autism. Students from the two districts participate on the same gymnastics and girls' hockey teams.
A resolution sets a framework for any future direction the districts may go, said West Fargo Superintendent Chuck Cheney.
"It lays out what's acceptable and what's not acceptable to discuss," he said.
Some future collaborations the two district could explore include starting a language academy for older students who begin school without any English language skills, opening a magnet school or holding an employee fair.
