Recently CCHS students were asked about stress in their lives. The majority said school work and tests caused them the most stress. Siblings and parents were the next stress causers.

Many students said that homework causes stress because there is too much and the work is hard at times. Others said parents and siblings made them stressed out because of parents pressuring them to do better at school or other things and siblings bugging them when they are trying to get things done. There are a variety of ways in which they escaped from these stresses.

When she's pressured, "I do anything but school work," seventh grader Sarah Rodlund said.

Others said that they watched TV, asked for help from parents or just did nothing to escape from stress.

Some students said not only was school stress causing because of all of the work they are given but also because they have to wake up so early to go there. Waking up early can make students crabby and makes them not want to do anything, causing them to get bad grades, thus causing more stress.

Siblings and parents were another big source of stress. Freshman Talia Welken said when talking about her sisters, "They are really loud and they chew with their mouths open."

Parents continuously getting on their teens' cases can also cause them a great amount of stress.

Stress may lead to teen depression. According to Patricia Shapio in "A Parents' Guide to Children and Adolescent Depression," 3 to 6 million children under the age of 18 may suffer from clinical depression.

Low self-esteem can be one of the biggest problems for teens because of the importance placed on looks and achievement in schools and society. Stress can come from worrying about looking attractive enough or about being good enough at something.

But there is always a way for a person to escape from the stress in their lives. They just have to experiment to find successful methods to overcome feelings of pressure.
