BISMARCK - The executive director of North Dakota's Democratic Party said he's leaving the job next week.

Jamie Selzler said his last day on the job will be Monday. The 2009 North Dakota Legislature starts Tuesday. Selzler said he wants his successor to have the chance to get started during the legislative session.

Selzler, 30, has been the Democratic director for almost two years. He said his job has been "one of the greatest honors" of his life.

State Democratic chairman David Strauss said Selzler played a key role in the success of the Democratic presidential preference caucuses and the party's state convention last year.

Selzler said he was interested in a future run for the Legislature or state office.

"Right now, my focus is on figuring out where the next turn in my career is going to be," he said. "Once I'm settled there, I'll evaluate whether running for something is what I want to do."
