Senate OKs funds for N.D. projects

The U.S.

The U.S. Senate has approved more than $210 million in funding for North Dakota highways and transportation projects.

The Transportation, Treasury and General Government Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2004 also includes:

- $5.8 million to modernize the federal post office in Fargo with replacement of the building's freight elevator, windows and electrical system, and repaving of the parking lot and adjoining sidewalks.

- $200,000 for North Dakota State University's Small Urban Transit Center, to improve the mobility and accessibility of transit options in rural towns.

- $200,000 for Fargo's Metro Access to Jobs, a program designed to improve the options for poor and lower-income workers in accessing affordable transportation to jobs.

- $500,000 for NDSU's Advanced Traffic Analysis Center to improve transportation efficiency by reducing congestion.
