While candidates across the nation had an evening of nail-biting Tuesday, at least some -- including a handful in Cass County -- had only to worry about a surge of write-in competitors.
Incumbents for several local offices ran unopposed. Those included:
- Mike Montplaisir, Cass County auditor.
- Deanna Kensrud, Cass County recorder.
- Charlotte Sandvik, Cass County treasurer.

- Don Rudnick, Cass County sheriff.
- Jon Lindgren, Cass County Garrison Diversion Conservancy director.
- Richard Faught, Cass County Soil Conservation director.
Three of the four judgeships in the East Central Judicial District had no race.
Frank Racek retained his seat in East Central Judicial District 5.
Georgia Dawson retained her seat in East Central Judicial District 6.
And in what could be his last county election, Ralph Erickson retained his seat in East Central Judicial District 7.
Erickson has been nominated for a federal judgeship to replace Judge Rodney Webb, who has taken senior status.
