FARGO - A winter storm could dump 3 to 6 inches of snow on the Fargo-Moorhead area today and 4 to 8 inches in areas south of the Interstate 94 corridor, the National Weather Service said.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. today.
North winds of 10 to 15 mph combined with below-zero temperatures are expected to produce wind chills of 25 to 30 below and may cause drifting over roads, the weather service said.
The forecast calls for 3 to 6 inches of snow in Fargo-Moorhead, Valley City and Fergus Falls, Minn.; 4 to 8 inches in Gwinner, Lisbon, Wahpeton and Elbow Lake, Minn.; and 4 to 7 inches in Bismarck, Jamestown and Dickinson. Isolated higher amounts are possible.
Farther south, 5 to 9 inches of snowfall is anticipated in Wheaton, Minn., Ortonville, Minn., Sisseton, S.D., and Watertown, S.D.

Meanwhile, a winter storm warning remains in effect through tonight for much of west-central and south-central Minnesota, generally south of a line from Appleton to Willmar to Litchfield to Owatonna. Snowfall totals in that area are expected to reach 6 to 8 inches, with isolated areas of 10 inches possible.
A wind chill advisory is in effect until noon today for counties north of Cass and Clay counties, with wind chill of 25 below to 35 below possible.
