LISBON, N.D. - The Sheyenne River level in Lisbon has dropped dramatically.
It was at 16.37 feet, which is minor flood stage, at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Tuesday morning at 9, the river was at 19 feet, which is major flood stage.
Ice jams along several bridges and bends in the Sheyenne River channel around Lisbon pushed the river into major flood stage over the past few days and forced the closure of the Highway 27 bridge, which connects Lisbon's east and west sides. The bridge has reopened.
Reports indicate that ice moved out of the Lisbon area Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service reports that the river will continue falling over the next seven days, and the threat of ice jams on the Sheyenne has decreased.
