The North Dakota Highway Patrol and law enforcement agencies statewide caught 21 drunken drivers in sobriety checkpoints this year.

Checkpoints were conducted from April through September.

More than 6,000 vehicles passed through the 27 checkpoints, with several individual sites checking about 500 vehicles, the Highway Patrol said.

The checkpoints resulted in 14 DUI arrests in 2001.
