South Dakota COVID-19 active case fall 475, drop below 6,800

Active cases, which measure newly reported COVID-19 cases against new recoveries, had been steadily rising over the last month but fell 475 to 6,778 on Tuesday, but remain high.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Active COVID-19 case count in South Dakota fell nearly 500 cases, the South Dakota Department of Health reported Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Active cases, which measure newly reported COVID-19 cases against new recoveries, had been steadily rising over the last month but fell 475 to 6,778 on Tuesday, but remain high.

State health officials also reported six South Dakotans had died with COVID-19, raising the state's death toll to 2,334. The number of those hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state rose nine to 243, state health officials reported Tuesday, and have ranged between 230-250 each day since Nov. 9.

The following are the state Department of Health COVID-19 case rates, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccinations tracked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as of Tuesday. All data is the latest available but should be considered preliminary and could be updated at a later date by health officials.

Vaccinations

  • INITIAL DOSE ADMINISTERED (IF 2-DOSE VACCINE): 589,519 people, 66.6% of state's population*

  • FULLY VACCINATED: 481,463 people, 54.4% of state's population

  • BOOSTER DOSE RECEIVED: 110,476 people, 22.9% of state's vaccinated population

*Note: The percentage presented here via the CDC differs from the state Department of Health percentage posted on its online dashboard, because the department's data indicates percentage of state population age 5 and older, not the state's total population.

  • NEW CASES: 1,341 (seven-day daily average: 623)*
  • CURRENT ACTIVE CASES: 6,778
  • TOTAL CASES: 166,208
  • TOTAL RECOVERED: 157,096

*Tuesday's new case count includes cases reported over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Hospitalizations, deaths

  • NEW HOSPITALIZATIONS: 84 (seven-day daily average: 28)

  • ACTIVE HOSPITALIZATIONS: 243

  • TOTAL HOSPITALIZATIONS: 8,446

  • DEATHS, NEWLY REPORTED AMONG CASES: 6

  • TOTAL DEATHS AMONG CASES: 2,334
