The town of Hurley, S.D., has 426 people. By next fall, it will have 425.
That's because of one its biggest citizens - 6-foot-5, 235-pound Coulter Boyer - will attend North Dakota State on a football scholarship. The defensive end gave his verbal commitment to the Bison over the weekend after a campus visit.
"I just like the atmosphere," Boyer said. "I felt like I fit in real well."
Boyer played 9-man football for Hurley-Marion, which advanced to the second round of the state playoffs before losing to eventual state champion Parker. Hurley is located 40 miles southwest of Sioux Falls.
He picked NDSU over South Dakota State and the University of South Dakota.

"I don't think you have to go to a real huge school to get noticed," Boyer said.
Boyer will be the second player from his neighborhood at NDSU. Offensive lineman Chris Wellenstein, who redshirted last year, is from nearby Centerville, S.D.
Boyer is also a standout in basketball, but decided last fall to concentrate on football.
"I just realized that is what I want to play," he said.
