A 22-year-old Fargo man died Friday from a gunshot wound to the head in an unintentional shooting at a West Fargo apartment, police said.
John Michael Legler was handling a handgun when it discharged, police said. Legler, 3517 Kelly St. N., was visiting friends at 530 6th St. E. Police were called about 10:40 p.m. Friday.
West Fargo police did not release the names of the two people who were in the apartment at the time. Detective Greg Warren did not return two phone messages seeking further information.
Torril Wasness, manager of the apartment building, declined to comment. She said the friends of the man were not in the mood to talk Saturday.
An autopsy will be performed Monday in Bismarck, police said.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - Firefighters here will continue monitoring hot spots in the debris left from Friday's massive blaze throughout the weekend and possibly longer.
Fire Chief Bert Gray said it could be weeks before investigators know what caused the fire that destroyed the downtown landmark that housed nine businesses, including King Photography.
"Until we get everything out and start digging, we just don't have much information," Gray said. "This will be a whole month-long ordeal."
Three to five firefighters will remain at the scene at all times, rotating every six hours, to fight hot spots, Gray said. That process could last until Tuesday, he estimates.
On Wednesday, investigators plan to begin looking for the cause and origin of the fire, Gray said.
