FARGO - A convicted felon accused of escaping federal custody plans to plead guilty in a hearing this morning in Fargo's U.S. District Court.

Perry Terrance Paul was named as "a person of interest" in connection with an October stabbing in Moorhead, but his charge in federal court relates to an incident that happened in August.

Authorities said Paul avoided capture since he walked away from Centre Inc. in Fargo on Aug. 23.

He had been ordered to stay there after serving a 14-month sentence in a federal prison for a December 2009 conviction of violating probation.

U.S. Marshals arrested Paul in December 2010 for questioning related to the Oct. 22 stabbing of a West Fargo man in Moorhead.

Soon after, Paul initially pleaded not guilty to the federal escape charge.

According to court documents, federal public defenders this week requested a hearing so Paul could change his plea.

He faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.
