North Dakota State University took extra precautions Thursday after a custodian found a suspicious pipe wrapped in duct tape near Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse, a spokesman said.

The custodian found the item, about 6 inches long, while shoveling snow at 8:30 a.m., said NDSU spokesman Dave Wahlberg.

The fieldhouse was evacuated, and the Red River Valley Regional Bomb Squad responded.

President Joseph Chapman's state of the university address was delayed until officials learned there was no safety threat, Wahlberg said.
