Teen to face charges in Mahnomen crash

A 16-year-old driver involved in a crash that injured a mother and her child will face charges, Mahnomen County Attorney Julie Bruggeman said Friday.

A 16-year-old driver involved in a crash that injured a mother and her child will face charges, Mahnomen County Attorney Julie Bruggeman said Friday.

The teen's name has not been released, nor has she been arrested, according to Bruggeman, who said she won't file charges until she has all of the necessary investigative reports.

Aimee Aguilar, 20, Mahnomen, was driving westbound on Minnesota Highway 200 on May 3 when a 16-year-old girl driving eastbound struck her vehicle, according to the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office.

Aguilar's son, Jordan James, was delivered that night by emergency C-section.

On Thursday, doctors at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo told the family the child was unlikely to survive, and if he did he would likely be unable to walk, talk or open his eyes.

The child was baptized Thursday and afterward was taken off a life-supporting respirator, according to his father, Joe Aguilar.

The infant remained in critical condition as of 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Bruggeman said charges will depend on many factors, but she anticipates charges will include driving without a license and criminal vehicular operation.
