MANKATO, Minn. – A death investigation is underway in Blue Earth County Wednesday after a 16-year-old girl’s body was found in a field west of Mankato.
The teenager was from nearby New Ulm, but her name hasn’t been released pending notification of relatives.
The girl’s body was found after the sheriff’s office received a call about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday that a vehicle was sitting in a field about 200 yards off of Minnesota Highway 68, the main road between Mankato and New Ulm.
A deputy found the vehicle stuck in mud, but no one was in the immediate area.
During a search of the area, the deputy found the 16-year-old face down in the field “some distance away from the vehicle,” said Capt. Rich Murry of the sheriff’s department.
The female has been transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
