The Granary Girls

Sunday

When Jodi Ritter was in high school, her appalled English teacher summoned her mom to school, and the two gave the girl a serious talking to. Ritter (on right in photo) had confessed in a paper she wanted to be a folk musician, and the pair warned her about the drug-addled life of dissolution that career choice would involve. Today, Ritter and singing partner Patty Kakac (on left in photo) - folk duo the Granary Girls - are poster children for wholesomeness. The Evansville, Minn., pair snack on fresh vegetables and play with horses on Kakac's farm. They write tuneful songs about ending violence and respecting the environment. And Ritter, who also works with domestic violence survivors, has no urge to dabble in drugs. The group performs at Fargo's Unitarian Universalist Churchat 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10.
