Three men arrested for fake $20 bills

Fargo police arrested three 19-year-old men Friday for trying to use $200 in fake $20 bills at the Kum & Go at 2237 S. 13th Ave.

Police say Kevin Guerrero, 2962 22nd St. S., Moorhead, Adam Blessum, 2321 17th Ave. S.W., Fargo, and Bopha Meas, 2701 38½ Ave. S.W., Fargo, attempted to change fake $20s for smaller bills at 1 a.m. at the convenience store.

In a separate incident reported Thursday at 11:31 p.m., West Acres 14 cinema workers found a fake $20 while counting money at the end of the night, police said.

Based on common sense, the incidents were probably related, said Fargo Sgt. Dean Mueller.

Fargo police said area businesses should watch out for customers using fake money, especially during the busy holiday season.

Clerks should pay attention to how a bill feels, Mueller said.

"If it's kind of slippery, it's probably not real," he said.

Newer bills have oversized portraits, watermarks and a security strip. If people hold bills up to the light, they can see all these traits better, Mueller said.
