A 19-year-old Kindred, N.D., woman involved in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday was in serious condition Wednesday, an Innovis Hospital spokeswoman said.

Lyndsey Hively was driving south on University Drive around 4 p.m. when her car collided with a Fitzgerald Construction Co. truck headed west on 52nd Avenue.

Hively's Pontiac Grand Am then caught fire.

Bystanders with fire extinguishers fought the flames, then helped firefighters pry open the door and pull her from the car.

Curtis Burnham, 66, of Glyndon, Minn., the truck driver, was not injured.

Sgt. Kevin Volrath said Fargo police are releasing no further information, including which vehicle had the green light. He also said a reconstruction team is trying to determine the cause of the accident.

The intersection saw eight vehicle-to-vehicle accidents from Jan. 1, 1999, to Sept. 30, 2002, according to a study by the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Council of Governments.

The area surrounding the intersection is one of many current MetroCOG roadway improvement studies, said Brian Gibson, a transportation analyst.

The entire project covers University Drive from 40th Avenue South to 52nd Avenue South and 52nd Avenue South from University Drive to Interstate 29.
