FARGO - North Dakota State University is part of two major transportation grants awarded this month.
The grants, each about $3.5 million, were awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The funding will support work at NDSU's Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute.
One grant is for an NDSU-led program involving eight universities. NDSU's share of the grant will be about $1.3 million. The efforts include developing techniques to extend the life of bridges, improving transportation planning for Indian reservations and improving road safety.
For the second grant, NDSU will provide expertise in rural and small urban transportation. NDSU's share of that grant will be $700,000.
