U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., was honored Thursday for his support of the state's transportation systems.
The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute awarded Dorgan the John M. Agrey Award during its annual banquet at the Holiday Inn in Fargo.
Dorgan has had an "almost immeasurable positive impact" on transportation in North Dakota and the region, said state Sen. Tim Mathern of Fargo, who nominated Dorgan for the award.
Dorgan helped direct more than
$1 billion to North Dakota under the federal highway reauthorization bill, worked closely with the Federal Highway Administration for emergency funding for flooded roads at Devils Lake, N.D., and secured $35 million for the Four Bears Bridge project at New Town, N.D., Mathern said.
