The Alex Stern Family Foundation has committed to give Trollwood Performing Arts School (TPAS) $1 million.

Stern Foundation executive director and trustee Donald Scott noted that the foundation has always supported the arts and children, "and this is a combination that we thought we could truly support."

"It's our largest grant, by far, by far, in the history of our foundation," Scott said during a press conference Tuesday morning.

The funding from the Fargo-based foundation will go toward construction costs, said TPAS Executive Director Vicki Chepulis.

Chepulis said that "being happy and excited doesn't begin to describe how I feel about the commitment, vision and affirmation that this gift reflects."

Trollwood is also launching its "Match the Million" campaign through which organizers are urging the community to match the gift dollar-for-dollar.
