TV transition to affect public radio station

The conversion to digital television will cause Prairie Public radio station 91.9 FM to be off the air during portions of the day through the end of next week.

The conversion to digital television will cause Prairie Public radio station 91.9 FM to be off the air during portions of the day through the end of next week.

The public radio station - which runs news, talk and music - is broadcast from the same 5-ton antenna as Prairie Public's local television station, KFME, said Bill Thomas, Prairie Public's director of radio.

As crews work on replacing the shared antenna in preparation for next month's conversion to digital television broadcasts, the radio transmission must be turned off for their safety, Thomas said.

The outages will generally be between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will last until the end of next week, Thomas said in an e-mail.
