A fire heavily damaged a south Fargo home Tuesday afternoon, leaving two dogs dead and one cat missing.
Firefighters responded to 1005 17th St. S. after a neighbor reported smoke coming from the house at 1:16 p.m., said Fargo Fire Marshal Norm Scott.
Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the kitchen and in the home's basement, Scott said. Smoke could be seen pouring from the top of the white, one-story building.
It took about 15 minutes to knock down the flames, Scott said.
No one was home at the time of the fire. However authorities located two dogs that died in the fire and have not located a cat that also lived in the home, Scott said.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but an investigation is under way, Scott said. Damage is estimated at $35,000 for the house and $15,000 for the residents' belongings.
Fighting fires in frigid temperatures such as those experienced Tuesday afternoon can cause problems for firefighters, such as frozen hoses, Scott said.
Volunteers with the Minn-Kota chapter of the American Red Cross provided the family of two living at the residence with emergency food and clothing, according to a news release.
