GLENWOOD, Minn. – Two men escaped with minor injuries when their plane crash landed in Lake Minnewaska Friday afternoon.
The Pope County Sheriff's office received a report at approximately 1 p.m. Friday of a possible plane crash near Peter's Sunset Resort on the south side of Lake Minnewaska.
According to a press release from the Sheriff's office, the pilot reported engine problems after take off and was attempting to make an emergency landing on the lake. The plane lost altitude quickly and experienced a hard landing, causing damage to one of the plane's floats. This caused the plane to sink in 10 to 14 feet of water.
The two individuals in the plane were able to exit the plane prior to it being submerged.
The plane was piloted by 53-year-old Skipper Cook of Eden Prairie. His passenger was 38-year-old Arturo Gomez.

The Sheriff's Department reports that one of the men had minor injuries, but neither were taken to the hospital.
Assisting the Pope County Sheriff's Office were the Glenwood Police Department, Glacial Ridge Ambulance, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Glenwood Fire Department.
