Two teenagers die in crash on icy Highway 71 near Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Minn. - A 16-year-old Bemidji girl and a 16-year-old Laporte boy were killed when their vehicle and a semi-truck collided on an icy U.S. Highway 71 south of Bemidji Wednesday night about 6:30 p.m.

BEMIDJI, Minn. – A 16-year-old Bemidji girl and a 16-year-old Laporte boy were killed when their vehicle and a semi-truck collided on an icy U.S. Highway 71 south of Bemidji Wednesday night about 6:30 p.m.
The teens were headed south on the highway when the driver of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, who has yet to be identified, lost control and veered into the northbound lane, where it was hit by an oncoming truck, said the Minnesota State Patrol.
Both teenagers were killed in the crash. Their names have not yet been released.
The driver of the truck, a 53-year-old man from Park Rapids, Minn., was seriously injured and taken to Sanford Health in Bemidji.
Bemidji police and the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
