U.S. attorneys in N.D. cited for casework

U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft recently recognized three of North Dakota's assistant U.S. attorneys and two federal agents for outstanding contributions to law enforcement.

U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft recently recognized three of North Dakota's assistant U.S. attorneys and two federal agents for outstanding contributions to law enforcement.

Assistant U.S. attorneys Norman Anderson, Fargo, and Clare Hochhalter, Bismarck, received Director's Awards for their work in United States of America v. Duane Huber.

In June, a federal jury found Huber, a millionaire farmer and crop insurance salesman, guilty of farm program fraud.

The Wimbledon, N.D., man was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to forfeit $5.9 million.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Peterson, Bismarck, was given the award for his work in United States of America v. Daniel Greatwalker.

In Dec. 2002, Greatwalker was sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of Linus Wallette on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation.

FBI Special Agent Jason Deaton, formerly of Grand Forks, N.D., and Wayne Thomas, a criminal investigator with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Belcourt, N.D., also were recognized for their work in the Greatwalker case.

The awards were given during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., Friday.
