Unstable weather similar to that which spawned the tornado that ravaged Northwood, N.D., Sunday night will remain over the region today, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, N.D.

The Weather Service issued a warning about 7:50 p.m. Sunday stating that radar indicated a strong rotation consistent with a tornado, said Mark Ewens, a Weather Service spokesman. The storm struck Northwood just before 9 p.m. and there are indications the twister may have continued east for a time in the direction of Thompson, N.D., Ewens said.

Storm teams are in the process of assessing the damage from last night's storm in order to gauge just how powerful it was, Ewens said.

With the continued presence of warm, wet air, the threat of serious weather will remain throughout the day, Ewens said.
