MOORHEAD - Fire crews are letting an old grainery and Quonset hut south of here finish burning after the buildings caught fire around 5 p.m.

The two buildings were scheduled for a controlled burn Wednesday, according to Sabin Fire Chief Randy Schmidt.

Fire crews responded to the fire in the 6000 block of Seventh Street Southwest after neighbors reportedly saw flames at the abandoned buildings.

A witness said he was in his home when he heard what he thought were gunshots. He went outside and saw one building engulfed in flames and the fire moving over to a nearby structure.

Both buildings were quickly engulfed.

"With the hardwood, it didn't take long," Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said.

No injuries have been reported.

The buildings had been used for fire and police training in the past.

Another nearby house was also scheduled to be burned on Wednesday along with the two buildings, Schmidt said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, Schmidt said.
