The officer noticed smoke and called the fire department.
Battalion chief Bruce Anderson, who responded to the fire, said there were no injuries reported, and they did not believe there was anyone inside the restaurant at the time the fire began.
Damage was contained to the oven and there was light smoke throughout the building, but the fire department did not believe the restaurant would have to revise its hours of operations due to the damage.
The Fargo Fire Department estimated the cost of damage to the oven at $5,000. It did not have a cost of estimate for smoke damage.
WDAY TV spoke with Doolittles this morning and the representative also described the damage as minimal, but would not go so far as to speculate when the restaurant would open Thursday.
