VALLEY CITY, N.D. - A Staples, Minn., man who was working to reconnect a trailer to his pickup was seriously injured early Monday when the pickup and trailer were struck by an SUV on a bridge on Interstate 94.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol:
The incident happened about 4:35 a.m. near Valley City.
The SUV was eastbound on I-94 and crossing a frost-covered bridge when the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle and it slid into the pickup and trailer parked on the shoulder of the road.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified by the Highway Patrol as Larry Cummings, 45.

Passengers in the pickup, 41-year-old Barbara Cummings and an 8-month-old child, were not injured.
The driver of the SUV, Ayman Ewina, 38, from LaCrosse, Wis., was not injured.
The crash is under investigation, according to the Highway Patrol.
