Fargo police are investigating vandalism to a stage canopy at Trollwood Performing Arts School.

Someone loosened a bolt that held up a suspended tent-like canopy over the school's Riverfront Stage, said Eloise Breikjern, Trollwood's operations director.

Weight from rain caused the canopy to collapse, tearing two holes in the cloth and damaging two support poles.

Trollwood officials noticed the damage Tuesday afternoon, but they aren't sure when it was caused, Breikjern said.

The stage is used for dance classes, but not typically used for performances, she said.

Officials hope to have the canopy repaired by Monday, when 65 students will begin participating in the Totally Trollwood junior high program.

If repairs can't be completed by Monday, students will use a different stage without a canopy, Breikjern said.

Repairs likely will cost thousands of dollars. The entire canopy costs $20,000, Breikjern said.

Fargo police do not have any suspects, officer Sara Cruze said. The person or people responsible for the incident could be charged with criminal mischief, she said.
