DEER RIVER, Minn. - A brother and sister died in a fire near Deer River over the weekend, Cass County authorities reported Monday.
April Saunders, 23, and Markus Saunders, 21, both of Cohasset, died in the fire early Saturday at a trailer home in the 8000 block of County Highway 3, about five miles southwest of Deer River, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Three other people - a woman and two teenage girls - were able to escape the residence and were transported to Essentia Health-Deer River hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the state fire marshal’s office, authorities said Monday.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies and fire crews were called to the home about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities found the trailer home fully engulfed by fire.
