With $4-a-gallon gas, it's hard to celebrate the automobile. Unless it's Das Auto. Volkswagens in the Valley is the annual summer car show of the Red River VW Club. The local V-Dub club was formed in 2002 and has been meeting regularly since 2004. The club currently has more than 40 members from the region, including Canada. This year's event kicks off with a barbecue at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Lindenwood Park. The car show, featuring all types of the iconic German vehicle, is from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Valley Imports. It's free admission, but bring along a nonperishable food item to cram into a Beetle. All collected items will be donated to a local food pantry. (701) 238-0593.
