The Forum's Matthew Von Pinnon has been named managing editor of the newspaper.

Von Pinnon has served as acting managing editor at The Forum since December, when Managing Editor Carole Tarrant left for the same position at The Roanoke (Va.) Times.

Editor Peggy Bellows announced Von Pinnon's new position Monday.

"It's a great day for The Forum, being able to promote someone like Matt to a key position like managing editor," Bellows said. "He brings a deep knowledge for and love of the area to the job - I think you can see that in the newspaper."

The 33-year-old started at The Forum as an intern reporter in 1994. He was hired as a copy editor and then a city government reporter. In 2002, Von Pinnon was named North Dakota regional editor, a position he held until December.

"The managing editor manages most of the other newsroom editors and helps set the tone of the newspaper," Von Pinnon said. "Like all editors here, I want The Forum to do important work while adhering to journalism's core principles: providing fair and accurate information that helps people better live their lives."

Von Pinnon lives in Fargo with his wife, Jennifer. He's a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead.
