Nearly 1,500 delegates at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks are now voting to select the North Dakota Republican Party's candidate for the U.S. Senate, the final endorsement that will happen during today's state convention events.

Gov. John Hoeven and Fargo architect Paul Sorum are both vying for the nomination to run for the position that has been occupied by Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., since 1992. Dorgan announced in January that we not seek re-election, and state Democrats will select their candidates at next weekend's state convention in Fargo.

Delegates will cast their votes, which will then be tallied for each district. The candidate receiving the majority vote will become the official Republican candidate for the Senate.
