West Fargo police are warning local residents about a possible telephone phishing scheme.
Police said a resident received a suspicious call from a woman who identified herself as Monica with CSC Investigations.
Monica said she was investigating a possible identity theft or fraud case and requested that the resident provide his son's Social Security number, police said. The resident didn't release the information and called police.
When contacted by police investigators, Monica would only say she was with CSC Investigations in San Diego. She refused to provide a mailing address or other information, police said.
West Fargo police are cautioning residents not to release personal identification information over the telephone or online unless you know to whom you are releasing the information.
