WAHPETON, N.D. - A store employee here was taken to the hospital after a man attacked her with scissors Wednesday night.

Police Sgt. Matthew Anderson said officers responded to the call of a clerk being attacked at the Family Dollar Store, 824 Dakota Ave., around 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.

The woman, a store clerk, and the male suspect were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn., for injuries they received in the scuffle, Anderson said.

Their names were not released as of press time.

Other store employees and customers were in the store at the time of the attack. No one else was injured, Anderson said.

Anderson said Wednesday night that it was unclear if the suspect was attempting to rob the store. He said what motivated the man to attack the woman was still unknown.

The clerk and man did not know each other, Anderson said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Breckenridge police, the Richland County Sheriff's Office, Wilkin County Sheriff's Office and North Dakota State School of Science security officers responded to the scene.
