Grand Forks food pantry feeds 18 people during shut down concerns

GRAND FORKS — HOPE Church gave food to 18 Federal Workers impacted by the government shutdown during a three hour give away Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 23.

The church's Community Care Center & Food Pantry opened its doors to anyone with a federal employee identification card. Employees were able to get fresh produce, canned foods and meats.

It's day 33 of the longest government shut down in history, and many federal government employees are about to miss their second paycheck.

“Now we'll be able to pay off some of our bills ... now that we've got some food in the house, so that's reassuring,” said Department of Agriculture worker Lana Demars.

The church plans to open the food pantry to government workers again next week.
