METH OVERDOSES ON THE RISE

Concerning numbers this morning on the number of meth overdoses in Cass County.

WDAY News discovered that meth is on the rise while opioid overdoses are beginning to fall. Our news team spoke with Cass County Public Health about the issue. We found out meth is the cause of half of the drug-related deaths in the county this year alone. That's the highest percentage it's been in years. Records show 14 people died from overdosing on meth this year alone. That's nearly double the amount since 2015. They also say they've seen a massive increase in cases of hepatitis C in the last five years, primarily from the use of dirty needles. Cass County Public Health says it's easier for people to get their hands on meth, but a whole lot harder to save their lives. It has implemented a number of preventive measures, including a harm reduction center where they're helping users be safe and healthy.
