Our average high temperature has now dipped below 80 degrees for the first time since June 23.

The average high and low changes very little during the three warmest and coldest months of the year. It is the transitional seasons of autumn and spring when this area records a rapid shift in temperatures.

For example, in September the average high and low will drop from 77 and 53 degrees on the first day of the month to just 64 and 41 degrees on the last day of the month. By the end of October, those averages dip to 48 and 29 degrees. But it is November that perhaps has the most noticeable change, as the averages will drop to 28 and 12 degrees by the end of that month.

The principal cause

of those more bitterly cold temperatures by late November is because our permanent snow cover often begins around Thanksgiving.
