The month of May will finish with a slightly above-average monthly temperature, but the daily weather has been filled with extremes.

The first two days of May were remarkably cold, with highs in the lower 40s and a stiff north wind, but the weather moderated after that. It reached 80 degrees May 7 and 78 the next day.

The morning of May 12 brought the last freezing weather of the month at 24 degrees. The next day brought a fantastic warm-up as the temperature reached 93 degrees, the hottest temperature of 2013 so far.

The weather remained warmer than average through May 19, after which temperatures have remained close to average. After all, the warm spells outdid the cold spells, ending the streak of colder-than-average months that had begun in February.

Following the much colder- than-average weather we experienced during March and April, the more average weather in May has allowed spring conditions to finally take hold.
