It may be a warm one today, but there is no stopping the oncoming winter. Even with El Niño in the works, we are likely to have what would be considered a hard winter by people in most populated regions of the world.
The average high today is 78, and the average low is 53. In one month, the average high and low will be 65 and 42. In two months, the average high and low will be 45 and 28. And by Dec. 1, the average high and low will be 27 and 11. At midwinter, the averages are 18 and 2 below.
Even if El Niño or something else gives us much above-average weather some of the time, there is still going to be a lot of cold, brisk, weather. We have to blame our latitude and the absence of any moderating geographical feature between here and the Arctic.
It won’t happen all at once. There is still a lot of mild weather to come. And there’s El Niño. But winter will still come.
