June 2012 finished with an average temperature of 69.9 degrees. That is 3.7 degrees above the 30-year average and ranked last month as the seventh-warmest June since 1881.

It was the warmest June since 1995, and it was also the first time since 2007 that a June finished more than 1 degree above normal. The warmest day last month was a 96-degree high on June 7, and that was one of two 90-degree highs recorded during the month.

A noticeable feature for many areas was the lack of rainfall. Hector International Airport in Fargo picked up 2.50 inches during the month, which is 1.40 inches below average. It was only the fifth June in the past 13 years with below-average rainfall. When you factor in the above-average temperatures and abundant sunshine, the evaporation rates in June far exceeded rainfall in Fargo-Moorhead and likely in most other locations nearby.
