If you have watched the national news over the past few days, then you likely heard the term “nor’easter” in reference to an East Coast storm.
A nor’easter, also known as a northeaster, is a winter storm that affects the East Coast of the United States and Canada. It’s a low pressure system that typically develops across the southeastern United States or Gulf of Mexico and moves up the East Coast into New England and Canada.
These types of storms can undergo rapid development in under a 24-hour period, which usually means big problems for cities on the East Coast. These storms produce very heavy rain or snow, accompanied by powerful winds, which can cause severe coastal flooding and beach erosion.
Because of these conditions, there are usually many flight delays or cancellations at many airports in New England, which is very bad news, especially this time of year around the holidays.
