We have gone through most of November with only a few light dustings of snow. There have, however, been many cold mornings with the ground white with heavy frost.
Here in the north, we think of frost mostly as a feature of the weather during fall and spring. Actually, we often have frost deposits during winter, but it is hard to see frost on top of the snow.
When I was a boy living in central Alabama, frost was commonly seen throughout the winter. I can recall the thrill of making tracks by walking through heavy, wet frost early in the morning in my Hush Puppy loafers, without regard to parental consequences, knowing only that I had found a way to leave a mark in the world.
