I received an e-mail last week asking me if I agree with the Old Farmer's Almanac forecast of a brutally cold February and a huge snowstorm in March.
Well, I looked up the forecast online and, as I suspected, the Old Farmer's Almanac did not even forecast a cold February or a snowy March. In fact, they forecast a very mild January (wrong!) followed by a somewhat mild February and a cold March.
Snowfall was forecast to be about average for each month of the winter, including December. (Wrong!)
So the person asking me about the forecast in the Almanac had not actually looked it up, but had apparently heard the forecast from someone else. Interestingly enough, this happens a lot. Many people get their forecasts from the Almanac's rumor mill, which usually produces forecasts even worse than the Almanac's.
